Obituary in Eugene’s Register Guard
McClucas, a well-known ethnomusicologist, was a friend and colleague of Tom Manoff’s. More news about the murders as it comes in and also tributes for McClucas to appear here in the near future.
UPDATE by Tom Manoff. I ran into a retired Eugene policeman in Idaho who knew Anne’s partner, Jim Gillette. He described Jim as a person who liked to stir up trouble. He said that when Jim was with the fire department, he once drove an engine onto a concrete railing and said to the other fireman what they wanted to do about it.
Like many people who knew Anne and Jim, he said that he was surprised that a person of Anne’s educational background and status would form a relationship with Jim, who he maintains had a history of abuse towards women.
He was surprised that Anne would move out of a house on Star Touch drive in Eugene’s South Hills and move to Jim’s house, by any standards less elegant.
The fire truck story is an odd one, but the Idaho person is completely reliable as evidenced by my several hours of conversation with him about many matters. I plan to meet with him again and will return with some of that conversation in the future.
