UPDATE. I now have several reliable sources who have given me names of meth dealers and users in Florence, Or. They have confirmed that there is a drug presence at theThree Rivers Casino at night. WPR will now begin a series about the drug problem at the Casino, in Florence, and also along the Oregon Coast. This is not a small issue. It would be impossible for WPR to seek funding for such endeavors as the Ken Kesey Center in Florence while ignoring the inherent dangers of locating the center in a city with such an extensive drug problem. I will still file a suit against the Three Rivers Casino (see below.) Now that there real drug problem at the casino at night has been made clear to me (I have no hesitation in calling my sources into court,) I think this alone deserves consideration as a possible cause for the Tribal Police to have me detained by the Florence Police.
—————————————
I was arrested on a technical warrant (and let go within an hour) by a really nice policeman in Florence, Oregon. (Hey, if you going to jail, put in for this fellow !) I was nailed by the Tribal Police at Three Rivers Casino.

Three Rivers Casino FormIf you have any kind of court problem you’d better think twice before going to the Three Rivers Casino in Florence, Oregon. Think twice about using their Gold Course also. There are “druggies” in the casino. And if you have any kind of warrant in Oregon, even for the most common of non-violent charges (back child support, for example) when you spin the wheel or pull out your gold clubs, the Tribal Police may show up to detain you.
The person who instigated the arrest was apparently a Tony Castro. He claims on the “exclusion notice” from the Three Rivers Casino that I “interfered with the rights of guests or an employee.” Also the form states that I “disturbed guests and “team members soliciting” — I have no idea what this “team members” wording means. I talked with a number of people who worked at the casino and were guests. No one indicated that I was a problem. With the guests I talked with a gentleman about starting a rescue program for dogs at Washington Public Radio. I spoke with a wonderful person at one of the desks. She was interested in the work of WPR. The guest mentioned above did in fact say that she didn’t gamble at night because there were druggies in the casino. She and I are in contact about working with abused women. So. What exactly did I do to warrant this arrest ?
Interesting. I have been scrutinized carefully by other Indian Casinos. I just had a great time at the Chinook Winds Casino. I was talking with some young people in the parking lot. There were a few beers around. The security took all our names and a picture. But They never called in the warrant on me.
Perhaps they know a friend when they meet one. Perhaps they know that Washington Public Radio is trying to bring money to poor communities and writing the real history about Native Americans. After all, as a MacGregor on my mother’s side, I have Indian Blood myself.
One woman who I interviewed says that she gambles in the morning. She doesn’t like the night because there are so many “druggies.” Now, could that be the reason they were unhappy ? That I was interviewing someone who was telling the truth about drug users frequenting the casino at night ?
I will take this tip seriously. First of all, this woman has been gambling for many years. She is a responsible gambler. She might spend all of twenty bucks. She and her husband only gamble after their bills are paid.
Now, when such an experienced, street-wise gambler doesn’t come down from her room at night because there are too many “druggies” in the casino, there has to be going on that needs more scrutiny. [I stand by this person as a completely credible source. I have no reason to name her here and will not. But before considering any legal inquiry at WPR please have your lawyers speak with my me. I write a lot of tough pieces here and no one is suing me. I stand completely by every statement with my byline.]
Whatever the answer, the Three Rivers Gestapo has me thinking about the kinds of bad things that can go on at a casino. So I’m going to take complaints about Three Rivers more seriously and assign some reporters to look into the matter. I will most certainly be sending some reporters to the Three River Casino. If they’re so hot to arrest me, let’s see what’s really might be going on behind the scenes.
Meantime, please drive yourself up to Chinook Winds Casino near Lincoln City. It’s an amazing place. The people are friendly, fair and I saw no druggies. Pass up Three Rivers and head for Chinook Winds ! That’s where you’ll find us Washington Public Radio. Please support us by supporting them.
So what prompted this arrest ? Whatever the reason, the events suggest that the drug activity should be looked into. When it comes to drugs, anything is possible.
